Message 2 - Introduction to the E-Team and Your Participation

Dear E-Conferees, Following on the opening remarks of encouragement from the "Land and Agriculture" Task Managers, the E-Team would like to join in welcoming you to this important electronic event. You will raise issues key to sustainability as we move "Toward Rio+10 and Beyond". Thank you for joining in this discussion. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Electronic Conference Management Team that will be working with you over the next three weeks as well as speak to expectations regarding participation. Your E-Conference Management Team brings together individuals from FAO, UNEP, SANREM and the CSD NGO Caucus. Your moderators are Thomas Price (FAO), Tom Forster (CSD NGO Caucus) and Constance Neely (SANREM). Of course, the Task Managers for Chapters 10 and 14 join us from FAO, respectively Parviz Koohafkan and Eric Kueneman, as well as the Task Manager for Chapter 12 from UNEP, Timo Maukonen. We all view this as a major event and we look forward to working with you closely throughout the process. We encourage participation from all regions, groups, sectors and thematic perspectives. Often discussions on these topics can prove very technical, but we hope that you will speak from your own experiences related to the questions and issues raised during the E-Conference. We especially encourage stories and experiences from the local and national levels, whether you speak as women, farmers, NGO members, indigenous persons, business managers, researchers, government professionals or others. There are background papers and web-links for sectoral, regional and thematic perspectives on Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) available through the web page (http://...) to give you the context for the current debates. You will shortly receive two additional messages to initiate the conference. Message 3 will outline the purpose, objectives and expected outputs of the E-Conference. Message 4 will provide introductory remarks on the topic and questions to kick off the discussions. With best regards, The E-Team: Thomas Price, Tom Forster and Constance Neely
